Nice compilation. Just to add, under forums, MyBB should be included, its a great piece of s/w, got most of the features which phpBB (minus mods, of course) misses out on such as AJAX QuickReplies etc.
@Reetesh Adbrite is similar to Adsense, doesnt have the same “punch” as Adsense, and their pop-up ads can be annoying

Didn’t understand why those photo Gallery things were listed until you mentioned “portfolios” that should help a lot of my friends!

Nice list! I have seen fantastico recently, and seems to be a very loaded tool! really good.

I dont get what an “Ad server” is.. do you put ads of other people in that and it randomly changes them ? Is it for making something like Adsense ?

And is that AdBrite thing also free like Adsense? Is it good for Indian Residents?

Kunal – Some of the links are messed up.

Here are my favorites.

Content Management System – WordPress (Yes, you can use it as a CMS, just need to set it up right and have right theme.) I like Uzanto’s implementation of WP as CMS very much.

Blogs – Again WordPress.

Photo Galleries – I have used Coppermine and it works well.

Ad Server – OpenX is a good option for hosted Ad server, but it requires a lot of resources. Running it on a shared hosting will make the ad serving slow and thus the pages displaying the ads slow. Google Ad Manager is another free (hosted by Goog) alternate. It does not have the best UX at this time. I got onto it during the private beta and have seen a lot of changes being added with each release.

Forums – vBulletin is not free/Open Source, but is a great piece of software to run forums.

Has anyone used BBPress (an Automattic product)? I have heard some good things about it, but never used it.

Shopping Cart – Magento is another new player in the game. It requires latest version of PHP (5.2.*) and at least 128 MB of RAM (for Pear). It is developed on Zend Frameowork. I personally like their code structure.
